Cara was one of millions who watched in disbelief the events of September 11, 2001. Days later, after
having grieved for the victims and their families, she returned to her canvas to paint her own
memorial. As stated in the Salisbury Post, "It is a simple painting: two lighted tapers symbolizing
the Twin Towers stand parallel, diffusing light onto a flawless red apple and a globe positioned near
the New York side of North America. The title of the piece is written in Roman numerals so as not to draw the viewer's attention away
from the art itself." "It's a quiet piece," Cara adds. "This is something I had to share. It may not affect everybody…but for some people it's a moment of reflection, something to honor loved ones that were lost." Cara expressed her sentiments on the back of notecards she had printed from the painting: "September 11, 2001" was painted in honor of those who lost their lives through the catastrophic acts of terrorism in New York City and Washington D.C. Two candles representing the World Trade Towers are lit, shedding their light on "The Big Apple" and the rest of the world. May the light that shines from them be not the heat of fire, but the warmth of a rekindled Home. Fine giclee' prints can be purchased through Fine Frame Gallery in Salisbury, North Carolina. |
